Project Overview

UDCS Consulting was engaged to support the remediation of the Fraser Coast Solar Farm following the failure of the high voltage (HV) audit.

The initial specification phase had been undertaken without the involvement of a specialist HV engineering consultant, resulting in deficiencies within the design documentation. These issues became apparent after construction had been completed against the flawed specification, necessitating expert intervention to achieve compliance and enable project progression.

Scope of Works

UDCS Consulting was engaged by Cardno ITC to deliver a range of engineering and advisory services, including:

  • Provision of specialist technical advice
  • Development of a practical pathway to address design deficiencies
  • Preparation of a detailed engineering report outlining shortcomings and required corrective actions
  • Delivery of revised, construction-ready designs to facilitate rectification works
  • Liaison and negotiation with Ergon Energy

The engagement also included a comprehensive re-design of key elements of the site, including system design, fault studies, protection studies, and earth grid design and simulation.

Design Approach

The project required a pragmatic approach to rectify design deficiencies while minimising disruption to an already constructed facility.

UDCS Consulting focused on implementing targeted design improvements rather than wholesale redesign, ensuring compliance with regulatory and network requirements while preserving as much of the existing infrastructure as possible. Close coordination with all stakeholders was essential to achieving agreement and progressing the required changes efficiently.

Project Outcomes

  • Delivered a compliant solution following HV audit failure
  • Minimised rework through targeted design corrections
  • Reduced project delays and cost impacts
  • Achieved outcomes in line with client expectations within a constrained timeframe
