Projects

Energex commenced issuing 33kV underground transmission feeder replacement projects as D&C in late 2007. UDCS Consulting was engaged as part of the initial trial project as design consultant.

Energex engaged a number of consultants to provide design and project management services for works associated with various sub-projects which formed part of the Beenleigh Sub-transmission Network Upgrade in South Eastern Queensland Australia.

UDCS Consulting was engaged by Protech Power to undertake appropriate design to facilitate the up-rating of a TYREE 66/11kV transformer at Rio Tinto’s Clermont Coal Mine. The unit in question being some 27 years old had been allowed to exceed its expected half life. The project intention was to undertake both maintenance and up-rating works in one operation.

UDCS Consulting was engaged by Queensland Magnesia via Protech Power to undertake appropriate design to facilitate the up-grading of 66/11kV intake substation at Kunwarra Mine Site. The project scope was a brownfield recovery of an Ergon Energy transformer and installation of a new 8.5MV.A unit. This unit had been installed as a temporary emergency approximately 3 years earlier. It was to be replaced by an upgraded TYREE unit.

Ergon contracted UDCS to design a new dual circuit 110kV transmission line from the Toowoomba Central Substation (CETO) to the Toowoomba Sothern Substation (SETO). This was a challenging project to design the line through a congested urban environment along a predetermined route. The transmission line was a combination of overhead concrete poles and direct lay underground configurations.

UDCS Consulting was engaged to provide a Grid Connected PV Study to assist the installation contractor with the tendering of a 99kW Grid Connected PV system at John Barnes and Co Locksmiths.

The specification phase of the Fraser Coast Solar Farm was undertaken by Ingenero, a well respected solar company with a track record for delivery of alternative energy projects. However, on this occasion they failed to engage a specialist high voltage engineering company to produce the detailed design specification documents.

UDCS Consulting was engaged by Protech Power to undertake appropriate design to facilitate the up-rating of a TYREE 66/11kV transformer at Rio Tinto’s Clermont Coal Mine. Power & Water engaged UDCS Consulting to provide detailed survey and design services to undertake rating study on 50km of 22kV feeder supplying the Adelaide River area south of Darwin.

UDCS Consulting was engaged by the DoD via the construction contractor to review a proposed design and offer alternatives and improvements for one of two intake substations at the Enoggera Barracks in Brisbane. UDCS Consulting undertook field testing and detailed design of substation ISS-1.

Power & Water engaged UDCS Consulting to provide detailed survey and design services to undertake rating study on 50km of 22kV feeder supplying the Adelaide River area south of Darwin.

Ergon Energy engaged UDCS Consulting to provide detailed survey and design services to undertake rating studies on 66kV feeders supplying the area north of Marybrough.

Underground

UDCS Staff have undertaken all aspects of underground transmission installations with experience up to 275kV:

Overhead

UDCS Staff have undertaken all aspects of overhead transmission installations with experience up to 400kV:

• route selection and feasibility studies
• development of structure geometries
• conductor selection (LV-EHV)
• engineering studies / network investigations (EMF, Lightning Performance, rating studies, maintenance issues, etc)
• detailed design
• development of materials and construction specifications
• project / contract management
• development or review of construction practices
• construction / maintenance policy development

• site supervision of testing / commissioning

Substation

UDCS Staff have undertaken the design of various aspects of mining electrical network expansion with experience in earthing, protection, auditing and substation design.
