Project Overview

UDCS Consulting was engaged by Solar Queensland to deliver the design and construction of a stand-alone solar PV street lighting system for Mourilyan Harbour, in collaboration with TMR Queensland and the Mourilyan Harbour Port Authority.

The project involved the delivery of a six-pole lighting system designed to provide P-category lighting for the car park and boat ramp areas, ensuring reliable, off-grid illumination in a coastal environment.

Scope of Works

UDCS Consulting provided end-to-end design and construction services, working alongside sister company D.C.E Solutions for civil installation. The scope included:

  • Design of the battery bank to meet performance requirements while accommodating space and lifting constraints
  • Design and construction of IP56-rated enclosures for MPPT controllers
  • Design and implementation of protection and isolation systems for the stand-alone PV installation
  • Design, installation, and commissioning of street lighting columns, including integrated mounting systems and secure access provisions for PV modules, controllers, batteries, and associated equipment

Design Approach

The system was designed to deliver reliable off-grid performance in a challenging coastal environment, with a focus on durability, safety, and ease of maintenance.

Key considerations included environmental exposure, equipment protection, and practical installation constraints. The design integrated robust enclosures, compliant protection systems, and efficient energy storage to ensure consistent lighting performance.

Project Outcomes

  • Successful delivery and commissioning of all lighting columns within 48 hours of construction commencement
  • Reliable stand-alone solar lighting solution tailored to site conditions
  • Fully compliant design in accordance with AS/NZS 4777, Clean Energy Council guidelines, AS/NZS 3000, and AS/NZS 3008
